How to select concealed overlay hinges for face frame cabinets:

• The first step for concealed overlay hinges is to determine the cabinet door overlay. Overlay refers to the amount the cabinet door covers or "overlays" the face frame or cabinet opening of the cabinet.
• Cabinet door overlay is how much you want the cabinet door to "overlay" on the cabinet or cabinet frame and determines the size of the hinge you'll use. The most common overlays are 1/2" for partial overlay cabinet doors and 1 1/4" for full overlay cabinet doors. If you want a 1/2" overlay on all 4 sides of the cabinet opening, then you would need 1/2" overlay hinges (1/2" cabinet door overlay = 1/2" overlay hinges). 
• The overlay dimension is measured from the edge of the cabinet opening to edge of the cabinet door as it lays in the closed position on the cabinet.
• The easiest way to figure out the size of your overlay: With your cabinet door closed, place a piece of masking tape vertically on the face frame and line up to the edge of the cabinet door. Open the cabinet door and measure from the edge of the tape (inside edge) to the edge of the opening of the cabinet. 
• As an example, if your cabinet doors overlay your face frame 1/2" on all four sides, then you will need a 1/2" concealed overlay hinge. To order a cabinet door for a 1/2" overlay, you would add 1" to both the width and height of the door. 
  
• We offer a cabinet door configuratoron our site under the measuring and ordering page. Plug in the cabinet opening width and height, select the overlay you desire for your cabinet doors or drawer fronts and the configurator will calculate the cabinet door size based on those measurements.

How many hinges do I need based on the height of the door?

Wood Cabinet Doors:

• Doors with a height of 42" or less will receive two hinge bores (1 Pair)
• Doors with a height of 42 1/16"-72" will receive three hinge bores (2 Pair)
• Doors with a height of 72 1/16" or larger will receive four hinge bores (2 Pair)

Thermofoil Cabinet Doors:

• Cabinet doors with a height of 36" or less will receive two hinge bores (1 Pair) 
  
• Cabinet doors with a height of 36" - 60" will receive three hinge bores (2 Pair)
• Cabinet doors with a height of 60" - 83" will receive four hinge bores (2 Pair)
