Our replacement Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts are hand-crafted and custom made from solid woods like hard maple, paint-grade hard maple, red oak, and cherry, as well other durable materials like MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and RTF (Rigid Thermofoil). Cabinet Doors 'N' More's products have been developed to meet a wide variety of applications and will provide a very versatile product at a reasonable cost. In addition, our products allow for many of the natural characteristics of the wood to be present in the product while limiting or eliminating the most objectionable. Colors will be blended with each door while character marks such as pin knots and mineral streaks are limited in size.

In “Heartwood” species, such as Red Oak or Cherry, the amount of sapwood that is present on the face of a door is limited and will only be present in the profiled areas. “Sapwood” species, such as Hard Maple, limit heartwood to the machined areas.

Effects of Moisture in Wood

Any solid wood Cabinet Doors or Drawer Fronts will expand or contract over time as moisture and climate conditions change. Wood products need stable moisture conditions in order for the joints to remain tight. Effects of moisture (addition to/loss of) may include panel expansion, panel contraction, joint expansion or opening, stile bowing and stile/rail expansion. Wood products installed in non air-conditioned homes, regardless of location, are very susceptible to expansion due to moisture. Unfinished kitchen and bath cabinet doors exposed to humid conditions will absorb moisture rapidly and expand.

Tips for avoiding moisture-related problems:

• Cabinet door expansion experienced prior to installation on the cabinet box will usually recede once the kitchen has been installed in an air-conditioned environment. For this reason, we do not recommend trimming or “shaving” the edges of the doors, because once they return to original sizing, the cabinet doors will be too narrow.
• Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts that have been exposed to high moisture conditions and then finished by the customer have an increased chance of “white lines” developing around the panels after the cabinet doors have contracted to their original size. We recommend cabinet doors be finished in their non-expanded state as soon after delivery as possible.
• Cabinet Doors 'N' More kitchen and bath cabinet doors are engineered with a back bevel on all our framing beads. This back bevel allows stains to penetrate the panel raise/framing bead area, helping to reduce the possibility of “white line”.
• If boring the cabinet doors yourself, allow room for expansion when boring for hinges. Hinges must be placed at least 3/4" away from the framing bead.

MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood product made of broken down wood fibers, wax and resin, MDF was originally introduced as an alternative to solid wood products in the 1980's. Unlike hardwood and softwood, MDF resists the natural expansion and contraction from changes in humidity, weather, and temperature. Since it is resistant to these fluctuations, it is less likely to become distorted, warped or bow over time. The reliability in the production of MDF results in a dependably smooth and blemish free surface that allows for uniform paint and adhesive absorption across all Cabinet Doors or Drawer Fronts.

      

      

RTF (Rigid Thermofoil) is a thin layer of vinyl that is vacuum-pressed onto cabinet doors and drawer fronts that are typically constructed of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). Rigid Thermofoil cabinet doors are high quality because they feature seamless construction, a smooth finish, and have color consistency throughout as well as being very easy to maintain and clean.
